How Sydney Opera House tickets work
There is no single Opera House ticket. Each performance has its own page, date, venue and price list. You open the event you want, check the date and the hall, look at the seating plan and choose a seat category. Prices vary by event and by category, so there is no standard price to quote.
Tours are separate products with their own prices and are covered on the tours page. This site is independent. It does not sell tickets and does not link to resellers, so book through the venue's own booking pages. Amounts are in Australian dollars (AUD), as listed in 2026.

Check the venue before you buy
The building has more than one hall, and it matters which one you are booking.
| Venue | What it is known for |
|---|---|
| Concert Hall | The concert venue. It reopened to audiences on 20 July 2022 after a major renewal. |
| Joan Sutherland Theatre | Home to Opera Australia, the Australian Ballet and Bangarra Dance Theatre; the second largest interior. |
| Drama Theatre | Another venue in the house; check the event page for the type of show. |
| Playhouse | Another venue in the house; check the event page for the type of show. |
| Studio | Another venue in the house; check the event page for the type of show. |
| Utzon Room | Another venue in the house; check the event page for the type of show. |
If you buy for a show at the Playhouse, Drama Theatre or Studio, read the event page for the date and venue. The state government announced a AUD 120 million programme of works in August 2026 that includes these theatres, and it is not a confirmed closure of the building. Check the current listing before you plan around a date.
Tours and experiences at the Opera House
If a show does not fit your dates, a guided tour is another way inside the building, with live prices and availability.
Prices and fees
What one listing from October 2026 shows, and how to read it.
Seat categories
One Concert Hall comedy gala, listed for April 2027, shows Premium at AUD 124.90, A Reserve at AUD 109.90 and B Reserve at AUD 99.90. These figures belong to that event and say nothing about other shows.
Booking fee
The same listing adds AUD 8.95 per transaction. That is a fee for that listing, not a rule for every show or every tour. Check the total on the checkout page before you pay.
Tours are different
Do not assume a tour carries the same fee as a performance. Tour prices are on the tours page and the Backstage Tour page.
Seat views
Do not assume every seat has a clear view. Look at the seating plan, and read the notes on restricted views if the event page gives them.
Ways to pay less
Two schemes that exist, with their limits.
Opera Australia Access Program
Tickets cost AUD 20 each and are allocated by a draw. Selected participants receive an email about one performance and can buy 2 tickets. It is not a guaranteed last-minute counter, so do not plan your trip around it.
Sydney Symphony Student Rush
Offers start at AUD 20. Signing up for the programme is free, and the offers arrive by email for a limited time. A valid Australian full-time student card is required, so it is not a discount for any international student.
If you are a visitor with no Australian student card, the realistic way to pay less is to choose a cheaper seat category or an event with a lower price list. For the best months to come, see best time to visit.
What to wear and what to expect
For the opera you do not need to dress up. The company's guidance for newcomers says jeans and neat sneakers are common. That is guidance for opera, not a rule for every gala, so read the event page if the evening is a special one. Operas performed in the house carry English surtitles.
The forecourt and steps are part of the walk to the doors, and the building is large. Allow time to find your hall, especially if it is your first visit. The Circular Quay page explains the walk from the station and the wharves.
Accessible seating and help
For wheelchair users and companions.
Wheelchair and companion places
All theatres have wheelchair and companion places. You book them through the Box Office on 1300 764 849, which is staffed daily from 09:00 to 17:00 Sydney time, or by email to bookings@sydneyoperahouse.com.
Companion Card
Check the conditions of the Companion Card before you book. Do not assume that a card issued outside Australia is accepted.
Courtesy bus
A free wheelchair-accessible courtesy bus runs between Circular Quay and the Opera House for matinee and evening performances. It is not an all-day shuttle.
Sydney Opera House tickets: frequently asked questions
How much is a Sydney Opera House ticket?
